Tip of the Month
Just because winter has made an unwelcome return you can still work on your swing. This month, I will show you a simple, effective exercise that will help you make a better transition move from backswing to downswing and train both your mind and your muscles. The exercise is so simple that you can do it at home with or without a club.
To get the very best out of the exercise, I would encourage you to do it in slow motion. Slowing the swing down will help you feel the different movements and when you think that you are unable do it any slower, do it slower still!!
From your normal set up position, focus on a spot where the ball would be and make a backswing. Then to initiate the downswing, allow your weight to shift to your left foot while simultaneously bringing your hands down until your right elbow is close to your body, as shown in the two photos above.
The transferring of weight back to the left and the pulling down with the arms is one movement not two. I would encourage you to practice this move over and over, in slow motion, until you get a feel for both the weight transfer and movement of the right elbow working down in front of the right hip pocket along with the rhythm of it.
